Tillman is the original Palm Bay. Settlers shipped citrus from Tillman's Wharf at the mouth of Turkey Creek, where Castaway Point Park is now, from the 1870s. A post office opened in 1887 and St. Joseph's Church went up in 1914. The town took the name Palm Bay in 1925. (Old Palm Bay)
Call (321) 220-9883Older homes, older well equipment
Homes near the river and the old Tillman area are some of the oldest in the city. Where there is a well, it is usually for irrigation, sometimes one that has been in the ground for decades. Old wells bring their own problems:
- Corroded fittings and pressure switches that stop the pump starting.
- Worn jet pump impellers that run but don't build pressure.
- Undersized or failed tanks left over from earlier repairs.
Sometimes a repair is enough. Sometimes the honest answer is a replacement. You'll hear which, and why, before any work starts.
Common questions
Where is Tillman?
It is the historic heart of Palm Bay, around the mouth of Turkey Creek and Castaway Point on the Indian River.
Is it worth repairing a very old well pump?
Sometimes. If the motor is sound and only a switch or seal has failed, yes. If the motor is worn out, replacement is usually better value.
Do you cover the riverfront streets?
Yes, everywhere in and around the old Tillman area.
